In baseball, the strike zone is that area over the plate through which a ball must pass in order to be a strike should the batter not swing - and it's the umpire whe makes that call For us, the strike zone represents those things that you are responsible for, the things you should be swinging at. And those things are determined by our Umpire.

If Jesus is not who He claims to be, then we can go ahead and live our lives as we please. However, if Jesus is, in fact, all that He claims to be, then we should evaluate our hearts and find out what is required of us. We should follow Him.

John the Baptist once asked of Jesus, "Are you the coming One, or do we look for another?" It's a good question, but it seems a little out of place coming from John. After all, John had proclaimed to others that Jesus was the One. Why is he now second-guessing himself? John's question is actually hiding a much bigger issue.

The 'why' question may very well be the most common. Even Jesus asked a 'why' question from the cross at one point. When things don't make sense to us, we want to know why. It's natural. But what do you do when the answer doesn't come, or the one that's given only adds to the pain?

Discouragement happens - sometimes for unexplainable reasons. No one is immune. And while discouragement itself may not be a sin, it puts a number of things that are within easy reach. It can be an effective tool of the enemy, so be alert.

Hope is the expectation of change. It's the light at the end of the tunnel. Being in the tunnel is difficult, but turn off the light and hopelessness sets in. When you're in a hard place, believing that things will get better keeps you going. Hope is a must - and it can be had.
