11-5-17 Ingredients of Success

What might we learn from the Houston Astros? They've had a very successful year and are now the world champions of baseball. While individual talent is certainly necessary, there are other qualities needed as a team in order to excel. These same qualities will help us in our churches.

10-29-17 Strike Zone

In baseball, the strike zone is that area over the plate through which a ball must pass in order to be a strike should the batter not swing - and it's the umpire whe makes that call For us, the strike zone represents those things that you are responsible for, the things you should be swinging at. And those things are determined by our Umpire.

10-22-17 Home Plate

In baseball, it's not the team with the most hits or the best stats that wins the game. It's all about how many players cross home plate. And so it is in the Kingdom of God. We use our gifts and reach out to people in an effort to help them get home.

10-8-17 He is the One

If Jesus is not who He claims to be, then we can go ahead and live our lives as we please. However, if Jesus is, in fact, all that He claims to be, then we should evaluate our hearts and find out what is required of us. We should follow Him.

10-1-17 Are You the One?

John the Baptist once asked of Jesus, "Are you the coming One, or do we look for another?" It's a good question, but it seems a little out of place coming from John. After all, John had proclaimed to others that Jesus was the One. Why is he now second-guessing himself? John's question is actually hiding a much bigger issue.

9-24-17 Box of Questions

The 'why' question may very well be the most common. Even Jesus asked a 'why' question from the cross at one point. When things don't make sense to us, we want to know why. It's natural. But what do you do when the answer doesn't come, or the one that's given only adds to the pain?

 

9-10-17 By-Products of Discouragement

Discouragement happens - sometimes for unexplainable reasons. No one is immune. And while discouragement itself may not be a sin, it puts a number of things that are within easy reach. It can be an effective tool of the enemy, so be alert.

 

9-3-17 Hope after Harvey

Hope is the expectation of change. It's the light at the end of the tunnel. Being in the tunnel is difficult, but turn off the light and hopelessness sets in. When you're in a hard place, believing that things will get better keeps you going. Hope is a must - and it can be had.

After a huge loss for our congregation just prior to service, our pastor gave the pulpit to Ryan Manes. He shared from his own experience some of the challenges he faced during a painful season of his journey.

8-13-17 Whether or Not

Why doesn't God do something about my situation? Many have boiled it down to one of two things. Either God is able, but He doesn't care - or God cares, but He isn't able. The truth is that God is both caring and able. So, what's going on? It's option number three.
